Our Mission

SLC is dedicated to helping every student achieve reading competency and to encourage the self-confidence and sense of accomplishment that is a consequence of attaining this skill.

Evaluations

SLC does not diagnose or identify learning disabilities. SLC will conduct preliminary evaluations to assess your child’s reading skills in order to develop the most effective program and teaching methods unique to your child.

Expectations

The parent will ensure an appropriate, distraction free zone for the student and tutor to work is available (table or desk for example). The student will be ready to work when the tutor arrives. When tutoring at the student’s home, a parent or another adult needs to be present within the home. Due to COVID restrictions, sessions in a public area such as the child’s school or public library, will not be possible at this time.

Attendance / Cancellations

In order for the student to make progress, they need to have consistent, regular attendance. Cancellations made 24 hours prior to the session will be rescheduled as soon as possible. If the cancellation is made the day of the session, there is no guarantee the session can be rescheduled. Cancellations made 1 hour or less prior to the session, or if no one is home when the session is due to start, the parent will be charged the full price for the session and no make-up session will be scheduled.

If the tutor cancels due to sickness, snow or unforeseen circumstances, the session will be rescheduled as soon as possible.

Payment

The parent can choose to pay after each session, monthly or pre-pay for a specific number of sessions. Venmo is the preferred payment method but cash and checks will also be accepted. An invoice will be sent to the parent monthly.
