About Us

I have been in the field of Special Education for 30 years. I have been a teacher, administrator, diagnostician and interventionist for students with autism. My passion, however, has always been teaching students who have difficulty reading. The greatest reward is when you see the face of a child once they realize they have broken the code of the alphabet and are able to read a text. I have dreamed about opening Sequoyah Literacy Center for many years and finally my dream has come true. I am passionate, dedicated and deeply care about children not only learning to read but loving to read.

I strive to make learning fun and meet each student where they are, tailoring each lesson to the unique talents and needs of the individual. I especially love games, playfulness, and creative approaches to learning that engage even the most reluctant readers and build confidence—learning should be fun! I have a Bachelor’s degree in English with a specialty in writing and graduate-level coursework in special education, as well as my time spent working closely with and learning from O’Lynne’s depth of experience and sheer talent for teaching. Tutoring is my full-time job for several years now, but more than that, it is my calling, and I firmly believe that every student can learn the joy of reading!
